The main KCSE written papers start on Monday 2 November and run to 20 November, for a record 1,048,355 candidates. It is the first time the exam has passed a million candidates, and the second-to-last KCSE before the exam is retired in 2027. Every old boy and old girl remembers that week. A message from someone who sat in the same hall, in the same uniform, lands differently from anyone else’s.
Here are six messages your association can send this weekend, how to send them without adding pressure, and the bigger job that starts when the exam ends on 20 November and the Class of 2026 become your newest alumni.
Six messages to send this weekend
Replace [School] and [Association] with your own. Messages 2 and 3 each fit in one SMS if your school’s name is 30 characters or fewer. Type any apostrophe in the name as ‘ rather than ’, or the limit drops to 70 characters.
1. For your WhatsApp channel or the school’s parent groups
To the Class of 2026 at [School]: we sat in the same hall, wrote the same papers and came through. So will you. Read every question twice and trust your preparation. Your [School] family is behind you. — [Association]
2. As an SMS
Good luck in KCSE, Class of 2026! Sleep well, read every question twice and trust your work. [School] old students are proud of you.
3. In Kiswahili
Kila la heri, Kidato cha Nne 2026! Tulieni, someni kila swali kwa makini na mjiamini. Wanafunzi wa zamani wa [Shule] tunajivunia ninyi.
4. For the principal to read at assembly or a prayer day
From the old boys and old girls of [School]: whatever the papers bring, you are ready. Start with the questions you know, watch the clock and finish strong. When you finish, you join us.
5. For parents and guardians to forward
Your school family is cheering you on. From all of us who sat KCSE at [School]: you have done the work. Now rest, eat well and walk in calm.
6. When the exam ends on 20 November
Pens down, Class of 2026! Congratulations on finishing KCSE. Welcome to [Association]. Tell us where to find you: [link]
Send them without adding to the pressure
- Send on Sunday evening or early Monday, never during exam hours.
- Go through the school, parents and your public channel. Many candidates are in boarding schools without their phones.
- Use your WhatsApp channel or a broadcast list, not a new group. Nobody likes being added to a group without being asked.
- Keep it to encouragement: no tips that could look like leaked questions, no predictions, and no individual candidates named without their family’s and the school’s agreement.
The bigger job: by 20 November your newest class has walked out
When the exam ends, about a million young people scatter to work, college, university and abroad. Many associations only meet them again years later, if at all. This week is the time to agree three things with the principal:
- Ten minutes at the closing assembly for an old boy or old girl to welcome the class.
- A sign-up link, printed as a QR code, where each leaver gives a name, phone number, email address and consent to hear from the association (for anyone under 18, a parent or guardian must give that consent).
- A first message after the results come out, usually in January, when the class has news and a reason to come back.
Alumnipad gives every association its own member site and sign-up page and keeps the class list in one place. The Free plan covers up to 50 members, so a class rep can start today. Larger classes need a paid plan, and SMS and WhatsApp messages come with paid plans.
